How To Un-Miserable-ing Yourself Instantly

Pregnancy and labor followed by babysitting (with/without help) often makes you feel miserable.
In each body, mind and soul state.

Well, I don’t know about the happy-smiley-all-the-time mothers out there, but I frequently purse my lips and frown my forehead during these times 😀

All those webs and books is recommending a ‘me time’ to avoid such feeling. Yes, that might works. But in my case, I don’t get many chances for me-time-ing. Since I was pregnant with Gian, I decided to kill me-time concept. Aside the ego reason, I’m afraid my frown and pursing lips catch to me sooner before the next ‘me-time’ 😛 And so I listed some ways, how to un-miserable-ing myself, instantly xD

1. Hot Shower

This was the easiest way and since the first night up with Gian, I took my bath ritual seriously. I’d enjoy ever splash of it. Took only 5-10 minutes, might be the short version if compare to the average bath time, while your baby is asleep safely, but if you mean it, you’ll be refreshed in no time, in every single bath time 🙂

2. A cup of hot coffee/tea

Well, since I’m a coffee/tea addict, a sip of hot coffee/tea can really brighten my day.

3. Loud music

Then get on your feet and shake what pregnancy has left you on your butt 😛 Or just shake your head to the rhythm 😀 And don’t forget to sing along. I did this every Gian’s bath time.

4. Laugh about something, anything

Fake it if necessary. Its good just to have a good laugh. When Gian was a couple days old, somehow I tripped on something and fell. It hurts but also silly, and I remember I had such a good laugh over my pain. And voila! Bye-bye frown =))

5. Take a walk (to the mall/park)

Its not about certain calorie amount you need to burn or anything. Walking for 5 minutes, anywhere, can really gives you new perspective.

6. Look up to the sky

When you happen to be directly under a bright blue sky. Look up! And take a deep breath 🙂 Its like right click on refresh.

7. Child pose (Shishuasana)

Has the benefit to calm the nervous system and deep relaxing for your back. Yoga offers many poses to help coping with pregnancy, labor and heavy mommy duties, but this pose has almost instant effect, well at least for me. And while doing this sort of ‘sujud’ pose, I often count my blessings 🙂

8. Pat you pets

If you don’t have one, get one. Maybe its just me, but I think animals are great for us to develop nurture/care habit. And its good feeling for us to know that we are capable to nurture/care for other beings.

I Failed, yet I’m Alive

How many books out there about success? The answer is too many.
But how many books out there telling us about failure, and how to cope with it? Maybe there is one, somewhere out there.

I was going through my book shelf just now and found a book on how to be a successful person in life. Cant help wondering, what was I thinking back then when I buy that book? I bet, I want to be a successful person 😛 D’ah! But really, what was I looking for?

Now, if you ask me, do you succeed in life? I’d say, you tell me what you mean by successful.
Is it having the million dollar job?
Is it having the perfect marriage?
Is it having the flawless body?
Is it being the perfect parent?

If that were the term of successful, well I’m nowhere near 😀

But, I love my job.
Husband often being pain in the ass, but he’s okay.
Full fat body and yes, I need to do something about this, but still okay.
And surely I’m no perfect mother. I get cranky with Gian, sometimes. And I feed him fast food already (McD all the way) LOL but he’s still the pumpkin of my life.

Yeah, I failed on one too many aspects in life. But hey, at least I’m alive 😉

Dirt is Dirt, But There’s Also Clean Water

Once in a meditation class, my Guru said,

“You can not clean dirty floor using dirty water. It has to be cleaned with clean water. “

Imagine dirty water in a glass. It seems impossible to have a clean water without throwing out the dirty water inside first. But throwing out the dirty water is not in the option. What to do?

Simply add clean water and more clean water until all the dirty water overflowed.

Cant tell why that phrase from my Guru stuck in my head for years, up until recently.

Been struggling with guilt and ‘dirt’ until I despise myself. That I’m unworthy even to breathe, let alone to live this wonderful life. But life goes on. And life showed my how to ‘cleanse’ myself, starting from my body to my deep down soul. In the journey, I get to meet great people, and experiencing how good life can be. Then life gave me the purest thing.

Kindness, love, joy bundled in one package called baby boy, Gian.

And then I realized. Its time to take all the clean pouring water from Life, redeeming all the dirt I’ve been stacking up and holding on all this time.

Yes, dirt is dirt. I cant deny nor forget it.
But there’s also clean water, baby.. no worry 🙂

Cerita 2 Kelereng

Satu malam, kami begadang.

Namun setelah sama-sama bertumbuh, sekali dua kali tempo, kami berdekatan.

Gian Journal: The Milestone (up to 3m)

The usual expression, time flies.
But with babies, time seems like a shadow. Its like no time at all.
Its been 3 months already since Gian’s departure in this world.
And when I thought I got all figured out, Gian reaches new milestone and there goes the routine we build together *LOL*

1 Month +

Marked with a modest ceremony, to thank God and universe for guiding Gian’s departure.

And soon after, I noticed that Gian started to make many face expressions.

Its the fasted month I’ve had. Too fast. Gian grew too fast.

2 Month +

Celebrating Gian’s 2nd month-versary, we’re having a baby spa.
Watching Gian’s happy and relax expression while having a deep massage is precious.

And since Gian is already weigh more than 5 kg, he can have a baby swim session. Cute to the max!
No cry baby, Gian loves being in the water.

Grab and pull is the next milestone, Gian reached within the month.
The early sign was, he’d join his fingers, then he’d grab by the edges, e.g my shirt edge and finally the round handle.

And PULL! 😀

Gian also developing his sitting skill 😀
Hello, its us! Anak and Mamak nongkrong *LOL*

And just a few days before his 3rd month-versary. Gian managed to lay flat on his stomach and lift his head high.
Voila! Boat pose by baby Gian :3

3 Month +

Now laying on the back is so overrated for Gian.
Its time to lay on the stomach, yeayy! 😛

Its like no baby at all.
Its like a boy, now :’)

And Gian laughs like there’s no such thing as misery in this world :’)

There. Gian’s milestone up to 3 months old 🙂
Lots of love from the 3 of us :-*

Gian Journal: First Month

Highlight for Gian’s first month was blistered nipples and round the clock breastfeeding. (Its more like my journal on Gian’s first month :P)

Okay, first, the blistered nipples.
A bit horror to look at and don’t ask how much it hurts.
Luckily, when Gian had his first check up, his pediatrician prescribed something for my blistered nipples. And I got a tip from every mommy that has a blistered nipples, rub each nipple with some breast milk before breastfeed and likewise after then let it air dry for a moment. It works! Well, the medicine also works. 2 days after having the medicine, my nipples were soar but not blistered. And I keep doing the breast milk rubbing up until now.

Round the clock breastfeeding.
The first blood check up, Gian’s bilirubin level was at 10.5/12. His pediatrician decided, its okay as long as I keep breastfeed Gian on demand, not by schedule. And since most babies of my fellow mommies were jaundice, I was determined to keep Gian from being jaundice. So I breastfeed Gian round the clock, on demand and on schedule (per 2 hours).

Tips I got to keep baby from jaundice were,

  • scheduled breastfeeding (per2 hours)
  • since jaundice baby is a sleeper, wake the baby if while breastfeeding he/she falls asleep by tickling his/her feet, stroking his/her cheek
  • count how many times he/she urinate and watch for the yellow color
  • sun bathe the baby before 9 AM for 15-30 minutes

Aside those 2 highlights, some general knowledge about newborn and baby,

  • normal temperature is 36.5 – 37.5 Celcius deg, don’t easily freak out if the baby’s temperature rise, give a warm bath and breastfeed the baby. Some fellow mommies set 38 Celcius deg as the threshold to contact pediatrician, some higher.
  • while breastfeeding, some breast milk might stick on baby’s face and it can cause acne-like thingy on the face. No need to apply anything, just keep the baby’s face clean by wiping the face with clean cloth
  • baby’s head sometimes feels warmer than any other part of the body, said its normal since baby’s temperature regulation isn’t mature yet, that’s why its wise to cover his/her hands and feet
  • baby’s nails are sharp! Really need to cut them often to avoid baby scratch his/her own face or any other part of the body

Those are few tips that I can remember among many.
I must say it is a big adjustment for my life, our life.
Being new mom, tired, definitely.
Can’t get enough sleep, sure is.
How I cope with this new life style would be in another post, hopefully I could make time to write all these experience.
